Every day now it seems that the days are getting shorter. When I see the nice sight of a big mountain out of my window, the trees seem to be differing in shade. I keep looking out. Each day outside, I keep squinting my eyes, waiting for the nice difference in brightness inside.
I love summer. The hot air and the beaches are always the reason I love the summer. That water over the coast is where I’m meant to be for the summer. But sometime, the hot air going to leave. Nature is not going to let the lands of Florida or Texas stay like a furnace for too long. After all, when there is a protagonist of something, there is always an antagonist, wanting to creep in.
But sometimes the change is good. It almost feels like I don’t have to move for change. As every day passes, the closer we get to my birthday in the harsh winter. But I wasn’t going to let winter get in my way. My favorite sports are mainly sports that you play in the summer. But we usually compete in them in the winter. Such strange tactics in any summer sport, but it works. You play the sport for the whole year from then.
That darkness creeping through and ready to devour the daytime may not be the apocalypse or the revelation, but it surely is a change in your life. Maybe after some sun, we should celebrate what is called fall informally, but really autumn.
Today–a day of all days, August 21, 2017, is America’s first sight at a solar eclipse since 1918! But for those who are wondering, “How can I watch the eclipse?” or “What is a solar eclipse?”, here are some facts you need to know for today’s eclipse.
A solar eclipse is when the moon overlaps the sun and so it causes a shadow and blocks its brightness. This year those of you Americans in the line from Oregon to South Carolina should see a total eclipse, when the moon completely blocks the sun’s shine. This will make it look like night for a few moments, then back to day. If you aren’t in those lines of areas, though, you may stick to seeing a partial eclipse, where you will see the moon partially blocking the sun.
The solar eclipse, like the bare sun, is not safe to look directly in the eye, which is the reason why we buy eclipse sunglasses and may DIY pinhole projectors. Eclipse glasses can be bought quickly online. But if you can’t, then make a pinhole projector. First, find a paper box, most preferably a cereal box, and find some paper. Trace the bottom of the box and cut it out. Put this strip of paper to the bottom of the box. Next, cut part of the box so that the lid splits the holes in the box in two. Next, grab aluminum foil and put it over one hole. Next, get a pin and jab one hole through the foil. Now, once the eclipse appears, take its light and face it towards the pinhole you created. You should see a part of a sun or a just a traced circle.
Today is a day that will go down in history in America. This solar eclipse may be once-in-a-lifetime for us Americans. Hopefully we all get to see this memory and make it good.
In history, sometimes there wasn’t a place with Wi-Fi or a smartphone or Pac-Man. Sometimes there were different kinds of games they would play. But now in history is a time with Wi-Fi, smartphone, and, yes, Pac-Man for all you retro gamers. But what makes games so fun, and what is a game anyways?
Games are one of those words that are hard to explain. You could call it something you can play, but that is kind of vague. Merriam-Webster’s definition is “a physical or mental competition conducted according to rules with the participants in direct opposition to each other.” This does not fit other games that have no opponent, unlike Pokemon and Clash of Clans. Dictionary.com says it is:
“a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators.”
This is a more valid definition and clearly explains our games today.
But, like other games, how do they keep you playing? Well, sometimes it’s the story that keeps you in for more. You want to know what’s next in the main character’s story. Sometimes it’s in the innovative gameplay, like new ways to play games. Other times it’s the graphics. The artwork is a major way gaming companies can show off their skill at making beautiful characters and enhancing their real-life looks.
Many of the elders here know how history has told its story. Gaming was once only a dream. But history has made it its next chapter. And who knows what’s next is store for games?!
Around the world, many of us tap our fingers on tables, or phones, or your legs or whatever you’re doing to keep you busy for the next few minutes. If one of these people are you, take a minute to notice your tapping. Are they in a rhythm? Or one of those super-catchy songs you can’t get out of your head? This all has to start with music.
Most of us know that music is composed of different pitches of sound, or notes. We’ve been hearing music probably every day of our lives, even through our own speaking. Like many other features in our everyday world, music has been around since the Big Bang that started the creation of everything. Of course, someone discovered that you could use these different sounds to make melodies that were absolutely beautiful and some melodies that sound absolutely horrible. Once music was discovered, different instruments were invented, like the piano, tuba, and the flute.
Now, today, music is the reason why thousands of people are so popular. It is why many peoples’ idols are musicians. They have become more than just a musician. They have become someone with bigger responsibility to their fanbase, the media, and themselves. It is also why being famous is pretty hard. It takes a lot more than doing what you do and just that. you have a lot of other things to consider and do than just sing or play or act or whatever.
Music is the thing that works in our mind and soul. That catchy song in your head is all thanks to music. After all, we do need that break to those notes after all. So take note (no pun intended) of music. it may be interesting.
Many of us around the world have a pet, whether it’s a cat, or a dog, or fish, or anything. Us humans have had these kind of companions, but were we really supposed to have animals next to us, training them to listen to us and making them do stuff for us, and making us and the pet happy? Or were we supposed to just let them be in the wild?
We must turn back the clock far back, to the point when humans started to hunt food after scavenging for fruit and herbs and etc, when they found animals, and some they killed for meat, but some they befriended, helping them kill more vast beasts. Was it the right thing to do? After all, maybe their lives would be more safe in the wild, with families. Or their lives could be safer with a person to watch over him, in a friendly community.
If there was another universe like ours but our pets were wild animals, would they be better off? It would increase nature’s list of animals but they would be wild. They would bite seeing people and would bark or scratch or do anything animal-instinct like to keep us away from them. This would also put the animals at more risk to die but more offsprings for the animals.
So, should we have made animals our companions? It depends. With us by our dog, cat, fish, or whatever’s side, they may live longer, but without, there would be more in the world. Both are positives for the animals. So maybe it doesn’t matter what happened way back when. That’s a good thought to think about especially with moments like these.
What is space? This may sound like an easy question, but explaining what space is isn’t easy. Would you say it is an black area with no gravity? Or the universe’s building space? There are many answers to this question. But we are asking ourselves the wrong question. Let me explain.
All of the answers of what space is are pretty much correct, one way or another. We know how to describe space, one way or another. The thing is that we know what space is. What we want to know what is in space, what different places there are, what a black hole looks like, and etc.
This isn’t even an official photo of a black hole. There are very few pictures in the world that are an actual black hole. This is how mystic space is. Although we may take photos by sending submarines with men in them in the so-called final frontier at the bottom of the ocean, we can’t always send men (and women) to space.
So what is the real final frontier of our minds? Will it be the place way down where we can send people without much cost? Or is it the clouds, where rain and birds appear everywhere around you? Or should it be the far deep, pitch black, amazing space? This is up to you.
It’s been about three days since I came back from Korea. The jet-lag is now gone and now I feel ready for this upcoming school year. But I look back at what I packed for Korea, and I sometimes ask, “Why did I pack that?” or “Why is this here?” or “We should have went here!” So, to cut you some bag space and some slack when packing for your next trip to where ever, here are some tips to help you travel on your next trip.
Pack things that you actually need, like clothes, hygienic stuff, and whatever you need. The major thing: DON’T OVERPACK! It may not seem a big of a deal, but trust me, it’s gonna help you carry your luggage and might help you avoid the situation of not using something the whole trip. It should help yourself in any way, but don’t under-pack either.
First things first, you have to pack stuff, whether it’s your baggage or your trunk. If it’s a plane ride that takes a while, it’s best to take electronics with you to the flight. It might cut you some spare time when you need it. Also, when the lights get dark in the plane it’s best to sleep, especially if there’s a time zone difference. But if it’s a car you have to drive, it’s best to take breaks along the way. Stop to eat lunch and dinner, and stay at a hotel if you have to.
Once you find a place with internet, you should find tourist attractions that you can go to. You may experience a lot of fun things and avoid you spending time in you hotel for a day pondering on where to go. After all, you don’t spend time on trips doing nothing!
Vacations are supposed to be exciting and fun. If you pack the right things, do the right things in transit, and go to the right tourist attractions and you will have a fun time on you trip. Enjoy your travels and hope the trip is in your memory forever!
