Chapter 9

“So, where do you think we should go? Sabotage the blue suit’s base? Or maybe get the last three Shards?” John asked.

“We should divide and conquer,” Trisha answered. “How about you and Jack go and sabotage the base and find where they sold the Shards to and Karen and I will find the last three Shards. Agreed?”

“Yeah,” Jack replied. “After all, Trisha and Harry were the only ones working on the case until now. So tell us all we need to know.”

“So Shards are organized by the continent they are found on. So far the three missing are Africa-5, Europe-6, and Antarctica-1,” Trisha explained. “So, I believe you should start with Europe-6. I have gotten a lead from the Naples police station that someone with a blue suit was near a dark corner that had a box near the town square. So, maybe Karen and I will go to Naples, Italy to try and get that. We should pack.”

“Then we should get packing back to America. We should get going to San Francisco to check it out.”

Trisha started to pack things like clothes, electronics, and other things that were important.

“Don’t you pack any self-defense stuff like whips and other stuff?” Karen asked.

“Sure, but there is always security to look at and you might get caught, which could derail the whole mission. You get weapons from inside the country you’re in and sell them after use,” Trisha replied.

Jack and John were ready to go and so were Trisha and Karen.

“One last thing,” Trisha said. “Take this walkie-talkie. You can talk from anywhere with this so if you need it, just ask.”

“OK, we’re off!” John exclaimed. “Well, at least, till tomorrow.”

Everybody chuckled as they felt as ready as ever for the mission.

Chapter 8

John told Karen all about it when they were eating dinner with Jack and Trisha. Karen shed a few tears but agreed that they were the ones to end the fight between them.

“Anyways, who made that notebook? Must be pretty recent, saying that he died about two months ago before getting a message from this Gerald whatever guy of a video of him killing our dad,” John said.

“It was made by Trisha,” Jack said. “Trisha traveled with old Harry and found multiple Shards with him.” But then he paused. “Trisha didn’t even know he died until a few days ago. So she filled the notebook up with her final pieces, then hid it somewhere so the blue suit men would not be able to find it if they needed it.”

“But even the blue men’s origins are unknown,” Trisha added.

“How many Shards have you and Dad saved so far?” asked Karen.

“Fifteen out of thirty-three,” Trisha replied. “The blue men have the other fifteen and three are missing and us four are going to find them no matter what.”

“Do these Shards create to make something like a bigger Crystal?” John asked.

“Yes, and they are worth big money if you combine them,” Jack replied.

“How much?’ Karen responded.

“So each Shard is worth about a million apiece, so 33 million, plus an extra five billion for the whole set, so 5.033 billion dollars,” Jack calculated.

John and Karen made a very surprised face. Karen gasped as well.

“No wonder they’re hunting them down!”

John looked at the old, battered book. The red on the cover was barely visible with all the dust on it. he blew it away, only to see that the back cover wasn’t there, just like Jack told him before.

“Let’s read up,” John muttered only loud enough for Jack and Trisha to hear.

John saw the book. This was assorted like a notebook. There were bullet points on the page that allowed him to easily get facts. He learned that the blue men were hunting down the 33 Crystal Shards, which were made of pure diamond and were about a 1000 cubic centimeters wide each.

Their father, Harry, was hunting them down and sending them to museums but the blue men wanted them for money. And so the hunt began. Harry got to museums and gave the Shards to them as a donation. But when the battle started to get aggressive for the last Shards, Harry got trapped into the blue men’s base, in the Appalachian Mountains.

He said he donated all the Shards to the museums but the lie detector said otherwise. So the blue man boss, named Gerald Varness, killed Harry for lying.

When he heard that his face started to turn red. He would get this guy and all the Shards back where they belonged. A tear fell off his face. He would follow his dad’s legacy.

“OK, now what?” John asked. “Are we just going to search up every single book here? That could take a while.”

“Well, we must do that. After all, if we don’t do it, we may not be able to uncover anything about who killed your dad,” said Trisha.

“No getting around that, but there’s only four bookshelves here. We could probably get them each done in a faster amount of time,” Karen replied.

John responded, “Then let’s do it!”

So each person wen to their respective bookshelves and started to grab all the books from top to bottom.

Jack added, “The book is red and doesn’t have a title and the back cover is missing!”

“Got it!” the rest exclaimed.

John was halfway through bringing his books down and began to check the requirements. He sorted them into red books. He found only six books that were red and, unfortunately, had a title.

Karen, however, found fifteen red books, but they had titles.

Jack did not find a single red book, even though his shelf was the largest of all shelves. Trisha’s was about the same size as John’s, but bigger than Karen’s shelf.

Trisha found only one red book, and to her luck, it did not have a title!

“Guys! I found it!” Trisha hollered across the room.

“This is it,” Jack replied. “We found it!”

It was a quick trip from Lisbon to Madrid. John and Karen, though, felt like the hour felt like a day, even though John was playing his new favorite game he downloaded, called Heroes of Gabalin. He was beating up monsters, yet it seemed to take forever for the plane to touch ground.

Once it did, John and Karen showed their passports to the security guards.

“The visa is right here.”

“OK,” the guard said. He clearly did not know English very well. “You are good to pass.”

“Thank you!” replied Karen.

Jack and Trisha were waiting at the arrivals area.

“Hey! You’re here!” Jack exclaimed.

“Well, we faced a few of those blue suit guys and we thought you had some information on those guys and what they have to do with our dad’s death.” John replied.

“We have a bunch of information about the blue suit guys. Let’s get to our house,” Trisha said.

After getting in Jack and Trisha’s SUV, they drove for a few hours towards Barcelona. They got to their house and found a whole library of books.

“We have one book on the blue suit men. But there is a slight problem,” John said.

“What’s the problem, Jack?” Karen asked.

“We can’t seem to find the book among the 1,541 books here.” Jack replied.

After all the hours of waiting and John playing video games, they touched ground on Lisbon. Next was a trip to Madrid. John pulled up his messages to Jack and Trisha.

“Yo, when are you coming?” texted Trisha.

“The expected arrival time is 5 AM. But you can come a bit later. We’re probably stopping for breakfast there first,” replied John.

“Meet you there!” Trisha responded.

Karen and John went past a man in a blue suit but was not wearing sunglasses.

“Wait, who was that?” asked Karen.

“I think we don’t have to worry about him,” John replied. “He isn’t wearing any sunglasses.”

The two went through security again and sent their luggage towards Madrid.

But the man with the blue suit was there again. Then, the man ran towards Karen and put her in a headlock.

Karen screamed.

John sped towards the blue suit man and punched him not once, not  twice, but three times before the blue suit would scram. The road to safety from being hostage was dangerous after all.

Amazingly, though, the suit guys did not budge. John did not even see him glance towards him. Unfortunately, John moved towards the guards.

“John, no!” Karen screamed.

“What?” the man near John said. “Look! Charge!”

John braced for impact, but was ready to face a few guys in blue suits anyways. He slid under the first man and violently lifted his feet and head to do a two-in-one shot. Karen made her way into the fight with some judo, slinging a man over her shoulders and dropping him. John then punched the next guy. All out.

Security approached John and Karen. “Who are these people?”

John said, “I’d guess he really doesn’t like us to come this far to get us. To be honest, he probably snuck through the security check, but you’ll have to check the cameras.”

Safely through, they entered the plane tunnel to the entrance to their seats to Lisbon.

“There has got to be some reason why they attacked us over there,” muttered Karen.

“Uh-huh,” John nodded. He was too busy entertaining himself with the new game Firedrain.

“Seriously, though, our friends Jack and Trisha better have something for us. ”

“Whatever, I feel really bored right now soooo, I’ll get back to destroying these hydro-bots.”

“What the heck are hydrobots?!”
